How long does it take to create a prosthesis?

Artificial limbs vary as much as the folks who use them. Some of our patients are missing a very small portion of the affected limb, others may be missing the entire limb including all the joints. Similarly, devices for the same level of amputation can vary widely in complexity as well.

Certainly the more complex the device, the longer it will take to perfect.

A  prosthesis may be provided in several days, for example, a simple non cosmetic device that is used to help with specific activities.

Conversely, a complex device replacing the hip, knee and ankle joints may take several months to provide.

The point is, when fitting a mechanical device to the human form, time and care are necessary. It is our practice to take whatever time is needed.
